About Wartook
Wartook is a small rural locality nestled in the northern section of the Grampians (Gariwerd) region of western Victoria, approximately 260 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. With a population of around 88 people spread across 132 square kilometres, it is one of the most sparsely settled areas in the state. The locality sits on the traditional lands of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples, and is characterised by rolling farmland, native bushland, and the dramatic backdrop of the Grampians ranges.
Wartook Valley is renowned among nature lovers for its unspoiled scenery, seasonal wildflowers, and abundant wildlife including kangaroos and diverse birdlife. The nearby Grampians National Park offers world-class bushwalking trails, rock art sites, and scenic lookouts. Local farm gates sell quality olive oil and fresh produce from some of Victoria's largest olive groves. Residents enjoy a quiet, off-grid rural lifestyle with the regional town of Horsham about 45 minutes away providing essential services.
Wartook falls under postcode 3400 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lowan (Western Victoria) electorate.
