About Belvidere
Belvidere is a small historic locality in the Alexandrina Council area of South Australia, situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula approximately 8 kilometres south-east of Strathalbyn and within the broader Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region. The locality sits along the main road linking Strathalbyn and Langhorne Creek, near the junction where the road to Milang branches off. With a small population of around 118 residents, Belvidere retains the quiet character of a rural settlement that once served as a more active community hub.
Belvidere's most notable landmark is the Soldiers Memorial Hall, built in 1921 to commemorate the 17 local men who served in World War I — five of whom did not return. The hall remains available for community hire. The locality is well-positioned for access to the renowned Langhorne Creek wine region, one of South Australia's oldest and most productive wine-growing areas. Residents rely on nearby Strathalbyn for schools, shopping, and services, while the broader Fleurieu Peninsula offers excellent wineries, vineyards, and natural scenery.
Belvidere falls under postcode 5255 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hammond electorate.
