About Bickley
Bickley is a small, scenic locality nestled on the Darling Scarp in the City of Kalamunda, about 30 kilometres east of Perth's CBD. With a population of approximately 713 (2021 Census), the area covers nearly 10 square kilometres of rolling hills and native bushland, and was originally known as 'Heidelberg' before being renamed after local pioneer Wallace Bickley. The suburb has a rich horticultural history, once a key stop on the Upper Darling Range railway which operated until 1949, and is home to Bickley Brook, which gives the area much of its natural charm.
Life in Bickley is defined by its peaceful rural atmosphere, with hobby farms, orchards, and nature reserves forming the backdrop of everyday living. Residents enjoy proximity to the Perth Hills wine country, with several wineries and cideries operating in the surrounding Bickley Valley. The community is small but tight-knit, attracting those seeking a quieter lifestyle away from the suburban sprawl, while remaining within reasonable driving distance of Armadale and Midland for everyday amenities.
Bickley falls under postcode 6076 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Swan Hills (East Metropolitan) electorate.
