About Pickering Brook
Pickering Brook is a semi-rural suburb in Perth's eastern hills, located within the City of Kalamunda approximately 35 kilometres east of the Perth CBD. With a 2021 Census population of 579 across 104 square kilometres, it is a low-density locality characterised by family-run orchards, small farms, and bushland properties on the edge of the Darling Range. The suburb takes its name from the nearby Pickering Brook waterway, itself named after early settler Captain Edward Picking.
Pickering Brook is best known for its picturesque orchards, which produce stone fruits, apples, and berries and take on spectacular autumn colours each year. The area attracts day-trippers from Perth seeking pick-your-own fruit experiences and the scenic Perth Hills landscape. Adjoining suburbs of Carmel and Bickley share the same rural orchard character, and together they form one of Perth's most scenic rural hinterland areas. Facilities are limited, with residents relying on the nearby Kalamunda town centre for shops, schools, and services.
Pickering Brook falls under postcode 6076 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Swan Hills (East Metropolitan) electorate.
