About Daradgee
Daradgee is a small rural locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Far North Queensland, situated approximately 5 kilometres north-west of Innisfail and around 90 kilometres south of Cairns. The locality is bounded to the south-east by the Johnstone River and covers just under 10 square kilometres of low-lying, flat terrain at approximately 10 metres above sea level. With a 2021 census population of 90 residents spread across 31 dwellings, Daradgee is a tightly settled agricultural community rather than an urban suburb.
The land in Daradgee is predominantly used for cropping, with sugarcane and banana cultivation forming the backbone of the local economy — characteristic of the broader Cassowary Coast agricultural belt. The North Coast railway line passes through the locality, historically connecting it to Innisfail and the wider Queensland rail network. The Daradgee Environmental Education Centre, located on McAvoy Street on the site of the former Daradgee State School, is a notable facility serving school groups from across the region. Residents rely on nearby Innisfail for everyday shopping, medical services, and schooling.
Daradgee falls under postcode 4860 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
