About Daveyston
Daveyston is a small historic locality in the northern Barossa Valley region of South Australia, situated within the Barossa Council area approximately 70 kilometres north-east of Adelaide. The locality covers around 12 square kilometres and recorded a population of 85 at the 2021 Census, making it one of the smaller settlements within the renowned wine and agricultural district. Named after Benjamin Davey, who established a mill in the area before the town was formally settled, Daveyston has a history dating to the mid-1800s when European farming families first arrived in the Barossa.
Daveyston is situated adjacent to the Sturt Highway, which connects the Barossa Valley to the Riverland and beyond, and the locality sits close to the Barossa Valley towns of Nuriootpa and Angaston for everyday services, shopping, and schooling. The wider Barossa Council area is internationally renowned for its winemaking heritage, and Daveyston benefits from the scenic agricultural landscape and visitor economy that surrounds it. The area was once more active as an agricultural service community, and today it retains a quiet rural character within easy reach of the Barossa's wineries, cellar doors, and village townships.
