About Ebenezer
Ebenezer is a small historic locality in the northern Barossa Valley of South Australia, approximately 9 kilometres north of Nuriootpa and around 75 kilometres north-east of Adelaide, within the Light Regional Council area. With a population of 183 residents spread across 29 square kilometres, it is a quiet rural community of vineyards, farmland, and open countryside. The locality was founded in January 1852 by 72 Wendish Lutheran migrants from Silesia, and its heritage remains integral to the broader Barossa Valley's multicultural story.
Ebenezer is home to Hoffmann Family Vineyards, one of the region's noted wine estates producing shiraz and other varieties from old-vine plantings on Sturt Road. The surrounding landscape is classic northern Barossa — gently rolling hills, red soils, and rows of grapevines stretching to the horizon. Residents typically travel to Nuriootpa or Tanunda for everyday services, with the wider Barossa offering wineries, restaurants, galleries, and visitor attractions within easy reach.
Ebenezer falls under postcode 5355 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Schubert electorate.
