About Seppeltsfield
Seppeltsfield is a historic locality on the western side of the Barossa Valley in South Australia, within the Light Regional Council area approximately 60 kilometres north-east of Adelaide. Established in 1852 by Silesian immigrant Joseph Ernst Seppelt, the locality takes its name from the renowned Seppeltsfield winery estate — one of Australia's most celebrated viticultural landmarks. With a 2021 Census population of 144 residents across 18.75 square kilometres, it remains a small, intimate community whose character is defined almost entirely by its wine heritage and tourism significance.
The Seppeltsfield Estate, established in 1851 and a multi-award-winning winery including Australian Tourism Awards Best Winery, anchors the locality as a world-class destination for wine lovers. The iconic palm-lined Seppeltsfield Road winds through vineyards and historic stone buildings, offering cellar door tastings, fine dining, and access to the famous 100-year-old Para Vintage Tawny barrel cellar. The estate and surrounding Barossa wineries draw visitors from across Australia and internationally, while remaining under an hour's drive from Adelaide.
Seppeltsfield falls under postcode 5355 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Schubert electorate.
