East Palmerston is a rural locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Far North Queensland, located approximately 25 kilometres south-west of Innisfail and around 104 kilometres south of Cairns. The locality covers 42 square kilometres of tropical lowland terrain and is one of Australia's most significant banana-producing areas, with some of the country's largest banana plantations operating in the region. With a population of 220, East Palmerston is a sparsely settled agricultural community characterised by the lush green landscape typical of the Wet Tropics.
The Palmerston Highway passes through the locality, connecting the coast to the Atherton Tablelands and providing access to the Wooroonooran National Park, which encompasses some of Queensland's highest peaks and most pristine tropical rainforest.
