About Robertson

Robertson is a small rural town in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, situated at the top of Macquarie Pass approximately 128 kilometres south of Sydney and 26 kilometres west of Kiama. Sitting at roughly 650 metres elevation on a fertile basalt plateau, the town had a population of around 1,865 at the 2016 census and enjoys a cool, misty climate year-round. Robertson is renowned for its rich dairy farming heritage, green rolling paddocks, and the iconic Robertson Pie Shop. The town falls within Kiama Municipality.

Robertson boasts a strong arts and agricultural community, with heritage buildings, galleries, and a charming village character that attracts both residents and weekend visitors from Sydney and Wollongong. The town is a popular stop on the Southern Highlands tourist loop, drawing visitors for scenic countryside, antique shops, and access to Barrengarry Nature Reserve. The National Trust-listed Robertson Heritage Railway Station—now an art gallery—reflects its historical significance. Residents rely heavily on private vehicles, with NSW TrainLink bus services providing connections to Wollongong and the Southern Highlands rail network.

Robertson falls under postcode 2577 and is governed by Wingecarribee Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Goulburn electorate.
