About Wauraltee
Wauraltee is a rural locality on the western coast of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, situated approximately 102 kilometres west of Adelaide and about 25 kilometres south-west of Maitland, within the Yorke Peninsula Council area. Covering 141 square kilometres, Wauraltee is sparsely settled, with a 2021 Census population of 69 residents across just 23 dwellings, giving the area a very quiet, rural character defined by open farmland and coastal scrub. The locality's name is derived from a local Aboriginal word, and its boundaries were formally established in 1999.
Wauraltee is perhaps best known to visitors for its beach camping, with the Wauraltee Bush Campground — managed by the Yorke Peninsula Council — situated on the western coast and offering a peaceful base for those exploring the peninsula. Wauraltee Beach itself is a popular spot on the Spencer Gulf, valued for its safe, shallow waters and relaxed atmosphere. Nearby Port Victoria, approximately 17 kilometres to the north, provides a small general store and boat ramp, while the town of Maitland offers broader services including supermarkets, schools, and medical care.
Wauraltee falls under postcode 5573 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narungga electorate.
