About Fitzroy Falls

Fitzroy Falls is a scenic locality in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, situated within Wingecarribee Shire approximately 137 kilometres south-west of Sydney and 16 kilometres south-east of Moss Vale. The area is set at an elevation of around 660 metres on the escarpment edge of Morton National Park, which contains the famous Fitzroy Falls waterfall — a spectacular 81-metre cascade into the Yarrunga Valley. With a small resident population of around 220, the locality is largely defined by the surrounding national park and conservation land.

Fitzroy Falls is primarily known as a day-trip and ecotourism destination, drawing visitors from Sydney and the Southern Highlands to walk the spectacular rim tracks overlooking the gorge. The Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre provides information on the park's flora, fauna, and Indigenous heritage. The handful of permanent residents enjoy an extraordinarily peaceful existence surrounded by bushland and escarpment scenery, with the services of Moss Vale, Bowral, and Nowra accessible by car. It suits nature lovers, bushwalkers, and those who want to be completely off the beaten track.

Fitzroy Falls falls under postcode 2577 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kiama electorate.
