About Stone Well
Stone Well is a small settlement on the western bank of the North Para River in South Australia's Barossa Valley, situated within the Light Regional Council local government area. Covering approximately 5.2 square kilometres, Stone Well is one of the Barossa's more intimate localities, neighbouring Marananga, Nuriootpa, and Tanunda in the valley's central zone. The locality takes its name from the Stonewell Road that bounds its southern edge, and its boundaries — set formally in May 1995 — follow natural and road features including Smyth Road and Seppeltsfield Road.
Stone Well sits at the heart of the Barossa Valley wine region, surrounded by some of South Australia's most celebrated vineyards and within easy reach of Seppeltsfield — one of the Barossa's most historic and iconic wine estates. The locality's compact size and low population give it a deeply rural and tranquil character, with residents enjoying the beauty of the vine-clad valley landscape and proximity to the Barossa's outstanding food, wine, and artisan culture. Day-to-day services are available in nearby Nuriootpa and Tanunda, each just a few minutes' drive, while Adelaide is around an hour away.
Stone Well falls under postcode 5352 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Schubert electorate.
